This will provide a clear indication of what your employees have to accomplish in what precise amount of time to reach a goal.
  3. Establish a clear and specific goal. In order for your workforce to understand what your company goals are, you need to be clear and specific. Each formulated goal needs to be able to answer the 5 Ws: “Who?,” “What?,” “When?,” “Why?,” and “To Whom?

So, to put theory into practice we have created an example goal:
Wrong: Increase sales by the end of this year.
Right: Increase sales with 1.5 percent (the measurable component) through online marketing by the end of this quarter and report to sales manager.

This will answer our 5 Ws:
Who? Barbara, Jennifer, Greg, and John (online marketing employees).
What? Online marketing activities. (This can be narrowed down to individual employee goals. See explanation below).
When? This quarter (three months).
Why? To help sales increase by 1.5 percent.
To whom? Sales manager.

The “What” can be narrowed down to the daily activities of your workforce as your online marketing team performs different activities to increase sales. Each employee can divert his or her own goal as one employee can be responsible for community managing and another employee for online advertisement.
